Google Search Console
Google Search Console is Google's free tool for monitoring how a website performs in Google Search and fixing indexing issues.
What is Google Search Console?
Google Search Console is a free tool from Google that shows how a website performs in Google Search and helps fix technical problems. It is the most direct source of data on your organic visibility, because it comes from Google itself.
Its most important reports:
- Performance: clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position per query, page, country and device – for up to 16 months. Traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode is included in these figures without being reported separately.
- Page indexing: which pages are in Google’s index and why others are not, for example duplicates, redirects or 404 errors.
- URL inspection: how Google sees a single page, including its chosen canonical.
- Sitemaps, Core Web Vitals and links: submitting XML sitemaps, page experience data (Core Web Vitals) and internal and external links.
For international websites, a useful setup is one domain property for the whole site plus separate properties for each language or country folder (for example /de/ or /es/). That makes it easy to filter data, give local teams access and spot problems per market. Note that the old country-targeting setting has been retired (see International Targeting).
For Bing and its partners, Bing Webmaster Tools offers a similar set of features.
